Public Skills Australia (PSA) was created to support the public safety and government sectors across Australia. We work closely with government bodies and key stakeholders to ensure the workforce across industries surrounding the public sector acquire the skills they need to keep our communities safe. We are committed to contributing to their future, ensuring they have access to quality training and professional development. As a Job Skills Council, we support:

Correctional Services Defence Federal, State/Territory and Local Government Fire and Emergency Services Police. PSA is classified as a Jobs and Skills Council (JSC), a not-for-profit organisation that works with industries to deliver:

Training Product Development that meets industry needs for training and upskilling our workforce, and supports the transferability of skills across the industry. Workforce Planning through consultation with industry and intelligence gathering on industry’s workforce development needs. This will support the development of workforce plans based on evidence and industry needs that will identify the current and future skills and roles across public safety and government workforces. Monitoring, Implementation and Promotion through the establishment of effective industry networks and partnerships that enhance engagement with key VET organisations, stakeholders and diverse groups within the public safety and government industry. Industry Stewardship through advocacy and industry-specific advice regarding industry workforce challenges and skills needs. This includes being a key advisor to the Commonwealth and the Public Skills Australia board on behalf of the public safety and government industry.

PSA partners with the Australian government and industry experts to create training programs which meet today’s community needs, while also preparing for future challenges. With the rapid change and development of today’s world, we don’t just focus on training but also developing programs that help workers stay ahead of these changes.

We use futures and strategic foresight to ensure the workforce is ready for what's ahead. We build strong relationships with industry leaders and stakeholders to understand their needs, allowing us to create relevant training programs. PSA also supports the industry by strengthening internal capabilities and promoting good governance. We manage risks through careful planning and problem-solving, using innovative solutions backed by data and consultation to address challenges effectively.

One of PSA’s main goals is to keep improving programs, responding to feedback from workers and experts. We ensure the training is practical, useful, and helps people succeed in their jobs. Whether it’s for local councils, emergency services, or government departments, PSA provides the tools and support workers need to do their jobs with confidence.

Looking ahead, we will prepare the Australian workforce for future challenges, which we have researched and analysed as part of the process to create the Strategic Plan 2024-2027. Our work will involve continuous research, innovation, and collaboration with the government, industry leaders, and training organisations to stay ahead of changes and develop effective training products.

By doing this, we can ensure Australia’s public safety and government workforce is always prepared, skilled, and ready for whatever the future brings.

As PSA moves forward, our goal remains clear: to build a safer, well-prepared Australia by empowering the public safety and government sectors through education, innovation, and strong partnerships.
