Commencement (August to August)

This project was initiated through consultation with Fire and Emergency Services which highlighted complex factors that pose increased risks to emergency responders. These factors include:

  • Increased use of combustible and synthetic materials in construction
  • Electric vehicle charging stations and infrastructure, especially in sub-basements of multi-level buildings
  • Confined or limited access environments, including high rise buildings, tunnels, and large volume spaces that complicate fire behaviour patterns and management of fire, smoke and gases.

The project sets out to define current and emerging skills and knowledge requirements when dealing with emergencies by facilitating conversations within and between agencies on best practices to support safer and more effective preparedness and response capability.

On completion of the project, the evidence collected will inform the next steps which may result in updates, if necessary, to the PUA Public Safety Training Package.
