Update to RTO Standards
The Department of Employment and Workplace Relations have recently revised the Standards for Registered Training Organisations.

The Department of Employment and Workplace Relations have recently revised the Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs). The revised Standards will come into full regulatory effect from 1 July 2025.
These changes have been designed to increase clarity for RTOs and regulators to promote quality outcomes for candidates and employers.
The revisions to the Standards for RTOs include a change of structure to help provide the VET sector with clear guidance on the requirements to deliver nationally recognised training and comprise of three elements:
- The Outcome Standards
- The Compliance Requirements
- The Credential Policy
Each of the policies above include changes that will affect requirements to RTOs, and trainers and assessors.
Changes that may be relevant for our industries include changes to The Credential Policy.
This includes the recognition of new and superseded credentials for the training and assessment of training package products.
These include:
- The recognition of those who hold TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, without the requirement additional units of competency.
- The recognition of the credentials of secondary school teachers to perform certain roles within the VET sector.
- Additional guidance on the use and function of TAE Skill Sets for Volunteer Trainers and/or assessors.

To support RTOs with the transition to the revised Standards, the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) have developed a range of resources that can be found below:
